CUSTOMER ALERT - Fraudulent eMails

January 26, 2012

We have learned of some "scam e-mails" being sent around the country that pretend to be from a company that monitors fraudulent debit card activity.  These e-mails warn of questionable activity on your debit or credit card, and ask you to respond by clicking on a link.

THIS IS NOT A LEGITIMATE EMAIL - PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO IT OR CLICK ANY LINKS IN IT.

It is believed that the email will either try to load a virus on your computer, or will ask you for personal information that will help them steal a person's identity.

These e-mails are not from Miners Bank.  They are being sent nationwide, so you may or may not get one.  Please keep the following important facts in mind when responding to e-mails that pretend to be from a company with whom you have accounts or transact business:

  • We will never simply send you an e-mail if we suspect fraudulent transactions on your credit card.  We'll try to call you by telephone and also send letters to your home or office.
  • NEVER provide your user name, password, or other personal information requested in an e-mail that you did not expect.
  • Change your passwords on a regular basis, and do not chose common words or names.
  • Never write your user names and passwords where they can be found by someone else.
  • Monitor your account activity on a regular basis, and call us the moment you see questionable activity.
  • If you get a call or email about your bank accounts, call your branch office before responding.

Please contact us if you have any questions about this warning, or any other aspects of "safe banking" in today's world of electronic banking.
